Welcome to a new episode of the Wisdom for the Modern Architect series, where I share a dose of ideas, research conclusions, principles, models, books, podcasts, tools, and other random stuff with you, personally curated by myself.

Let’s get started.

.

📰 Story of the week

I no longer design architectural plans.

I used to be a regular architect, drawing plans and making buildings come alive.

I did this for a long time, over 10 years, and I loved it.

But a few years back, something changed.

.

I realized the world was moving super fast because of computers and the internet.

Even in the world of building stuff, things were changing.

I noticed that architects needed to do more than just draw.

People were looking for architects on the internet.

Young architects wanted to learn new things and be part of this digital world.

.

So, I decided to try something new.

I became a content creator.

.

This is how I did it:

.

🛠️ Tool of the week

Digital tools that will make you a more productive architect, producing more using less effort.

The tool I reviewed this week:

.

As architects, we're experts at designing spaces.

But when it comes to our own branding, it's a different ball game.

That's when I discovered Canva.

Canva not only simplifies design but also provides templates and guidance for branding.

Try it, use it, and let me know what you think.

.

📘 Book of the week

Reading books is like sucking other minds that have already been in your place.

Why should you reinvent the wheel when someone else is showing you the way?

.

The book I recommend you to read:

.

Seth Godin, a marketing expert, shares his valuable marketing advice in a straightforward book.

"This is Marketing" is a great book for architects.

Whether you have a small architectural practice, or work for a larger firm.

But especially if you are an architect who is starting out.

Indispensable if you want to build a successful architecture business.

.

♟️ Quote of the week

Quotes make you reflect and think.

The quote of the week was:

.

What was you first thought when you read it?

.

❤️ Health message of the week

Your health is the most important thing you need to take care of.

Above anything else. Including your architectural career. It's not worth it.

Here is the highlight of the week:

.

You'll be forever regretful.

All of the money in the world won't save a crushed mind.

You don't need to the greatest architect to be wealthy.

Even if you do, you'll likely end up emotionally drained.

Like some of our beloved burnout colleagues.

.

💎 Business of the week

.

This most valuable business of the week is:

.

UpCodes is a construction and building code computing startup.

Specifically, they provide software that helps the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry develop code-compliant buildings.

In addition to a searchable database containing building code information, the company also provides a tool they call UpCodes AI.

This tool scans 3D models developed with building information modeling (BIM) data and notifies the architects about potential code violations.

.
